There are many ways in which you can save or group your data in the excel sheets. The most important part that you have to take care is how your data should be organized in the external data source. But identifying a data source is just the beginning of the story. So whenever you have a large number of test cases or you have large amount of data that needs to be validated, it is always advised that you use some external source (which would be Microsoft Excel in most of the cases) to store your data. But the issue with this approach is that though it is easy to use and implement, it is not a suitable method when the number of test scripts is large.
